In order to continue the hike you have to climb it and then go around. Tip: Right after you see the Landscape Arch you’ll come up to a long sloping rock formation. You probably be tempted to take pictures of the arch as soon as you see it, however, you’ll find the best angles after a short walk down the trail. The best time to photograph this arch is in the early morning. Unfortunately, the eventual collapse of the arch is all too real, as the battle with gravity is always a losing one so we should all take advantage and visit it before it’s too late. Landscape Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. This is a short detour well worth it as it’s only 0.5 miles round trip so really doable. Once you are on the trail, you first should take the spur to see two arches: Pine Tree Arch and Tunnel Arch which are located between the trailhead and Landscape Arch. As with many trails in Moab, you’ll have to keep your eyes open for subtle signs such as cairns, or a very small sign post with an arrow head symbol. We noticed that several people were lost as well as there were no clear signs as to where to go next. The only part where we were a bit confused as to where we should go next is when we were hiking towards Double O Arch. The trailhead is well-marked with several signs letting you know what arch or landmark is coming next. Here you will find bathrooms so make you sure you go if you need to since the hike ahead will take some time. Once you park your car, head to the entrance of the trail. Total distance:ė.9 miles (12.6 km) The Devils Garden Trail Dark Angel return via Primitive Trail:Ė.6 miles (10.6 km).Dark Angel and back via main trail: 4.9 miles (7.9 km).Trails to Navajo and Partition Arches: Add 0.8 miles (1.3 km).Double O Arch and back: 4.1 miles (6.6 km).Trails to Pine Tree and Tunnel Arches: Add 0.5 miles (0.8 km).Landscape Arch and back: 1.9 miles (3.1 km).The good news is that you can turn around at any time and don’t need to hike the entire trail to enjoy some of the arches. However, as you start hiking beyond the Landscape Arch, the trail gets more difficult, with some tricky footing. The first part of the trail is really easy and quite flat. And yes, we were exhausted when we finally arrived back to our car. It took us around 4:30 hours to complete this trail. Tip: The trail is quite challenging as it is a 7.9 miles (12.6 kms) hike and it involves steep exposures, uneven surfaces, along with a bit of rock scrambling. Additionally, in the morning the light will be best to take pictures of most of the arches. We recommend you arrive around 7:30 am so that you don’t have trouble finding parking. Note that the parking lot of this trail can get packed very early in the morning, so plan accordingly. It’s 18 miles north of Arches Visitor Center taking approximately 45 minutes pending stops and traffic (yes, traffic – Arches is one of the most visited parks in the US).

We headed out to the Windows Arch in the early afternoon.The Devils Garden Trail is located at the very end of the park road. We had some light lunch as the hot sun was high above, releasing its heat on the area. This was it, without further arch hiking for today. We returned to the trail head faster than the in-coming hike, and washed up the heat and exhaustion from the high sun from the wate fountain in the middle of the head trail. The ground was powder dusty on the trail in some areas. We took a little rest under a massive boulder for its coolness. We got to the vicinity of the arch, which was very much fenced off from a distance for preservation. There were more people on this trail for its easy access and slight hiking grade in the terrain. The weather in the high 80s, low 90s, with strong sun the hike was slow in its pace without exerting much of the leg muscles but the heat was relentless, water bottle was highly recommended. There was some shade along huge rock shadows along the trail, from there on to the remaining of 2/3 trail there was no shade cover. The trail to Landscape Arch was listed as moderately easy with some elevation gain gravel surface, with short side trips to Tunnel and Pine tree Arches, not recorded in my hike. There were several arches on this trails, the most known was the Landscape Arch (1.6 mile trail), then Double O Arch (4.2 miles further down). Without having lunch yet, my daughter and I started another hike to the trail. The rail head looped around in the parking lot, there were lot of people here than the Delicate Arch. Gaining the remaining energy and the day was just past noon time, we drove to the arch.įrom the outlook, the rock formation trail head looked like the backs of the giant dinosaurs, the whole area was known as the Devil Garden. The Landscape Arch is within the Arch Nation Park, 5 miles north from the Delicate Arch.
